Dale Underwriting Partners (‘Dale’) are an independent underwriting business operating through Lloyd’s Syndicate 1729, offering insurance and reinsurance solutions worldwide. The business moves to the sixth floor of 70 St Mary’s Axe in the City of London’s Square Mile.
Peldon Rose, alongside the client’s professional team BNP Paribas, were appointed to deliver an immersive office interior design. The result is a future-facing office characterised by a sleek and timeless aesthetic and dynamic spaces abundant in quality experiences for employees and clients.
We spoke with key stakeholders involved in creating the space to understand the journey this project undertook, from the initial desires of Dale, through to the collaboration with Nuveen Real Estate and BNP Paribas, and finally the vision of our designers to create a space that welcomes everyone and embodies who Dale are as a business.
Rebecca Dale, Operations Manager at Dale Underwriting Partners, describes how there were three main considerations when Dale started their search for a new workspace. These essential considerations were ESG, Location, and Culture. 70 St Mary's Axe presented the perfect location for Dale’s new workspace, simultaneously aligning closely with Dale's progressive ESG commitments, and holding a BREEAM certification of excellent, a world leading sustainability assessment for the built environment, consisting of science led sustainability solutions for buildings.
In terms of culture, Dale was looking to create an environment where people could thrive, all while providing a space to embody what makes Dale the operation it is today. Key areas such as the reception create a stunning and impactful initial impression for both employees and clients, while open plan desking abundant in biophilia and near to natural light creates opportunities for learning and entrepreneurship between teams.
When creating Dale Underwriting's new workspace, Peldon Rose worked closely with Dale themselves as well as the client’s professional team BNP Paribas, to deliver an immersive office interior design. Kevin Wither, Head of Landlord, and Charlie Mitchell, Project Manager, at Peldon Rose explain it was important that this venture was undertaken with a unified approach, considering the needs of both the Dale team and the Landlord. This unification was vital to ensure that the space is future-proofed for a successful 10 years. With a clear view from the outset on how the new workplace would look, Peldon Rose was able to deliver the office early and importantly on budget, to the great satisfaction of Dale.
Cristian Oprea, Project Designer for the Landlord team at Peldon Rose, speaks about the attention to detail that was paid when creating Dale's vision for their new space. The brief was about creating a modern workplace with a clean and timeless aesthetic. The design for Dale’s new office promotes a modern way of working, with employee wellness firmly at the forefront.
As Cristian describes, Dale’s value of “All Together” was a key factor in the layout of the new space, with a focus on collaborative potential over private spaces and offices, promoting engagement and inclusivity. Care was taken to showcase the building’s unique architectural characteristics, integrating these base build qualities with Dale’s branding, as well as honouring their connection to the Lloyd’s building.
